Cristel van Zunderd is a Dutch artist and illustrator who specializes in the areas of experimental graphics, charcoal drawing and visual design. She cites artists such as Jan Mankes, Peter van Straaten, Jurriaan van Hall, Mance Post, Quentin Blake and Tove Jansson as her influences, and nature is her obvious source of inspiration. Cristel's love for the earth and its creatures is evident in her work, which is often whimsical, nostalgic and sealed with her signature brand of humour.In 2012, Cristel's collection was showcased at an exhibition that was organized by the collaborative efforts of the Monique Smulders Kunstzaken and Nieuw Schoten galleries that are based in Haarlem, Netherlands. Her work was exhibited alongside well-known Dutch and international artists like Eric Ginsburg from New York, Alexandre Matos from Sao Paolo, and Rob Polak, Herman van Staalduinen and Arseniy Pantchenko from the Netherlands.2013 proved to be a bountiful year for Cristel as she was commissioned to create an art piece for a Singaporean client. In the same year, she became one of the exhibiting artists at the Fridge Art Fair during the Art Basel week in Miami, marking her international exhibition debut.2014 was the year of dreams realized as Cristel's work was showcased during the Frieze Art Week in New York City in May. On 9th September 2014, her first illustrated book, in collaboration with Anne Broeren, "Moeder Natuur Komt Mij Halen", was launched in the Netherlands. The book is a deeply touching compilation of spiritual questions by Joost, a young boy who had mere months to live, but chose to embrace his fate with curiosity and bravery. The book garnered much attention from the press and public. Not long after its launch, the second edition was released. It has since been translated to English, and it is now available at The Bookstore In The Grove in Miami and through Cristel.Last December, Cristel also had the opportunity to return to the shimmering shores of Miami to exhibit at the Fridge Art Fair 2014. Alongside her new works, she also presented the artwork of "Mother Nature is Calling Me Home".Cristel is currently working on her new book, the subject of which is extremely dear to her heart - animals and their message to the world.
